Seedings ruling

After last year and the changes to senior champs due to covid and some miscommunication on our end, we have received communications from Wakatipu that needed addressing over the Christmas break.

The business and community committee addressed this in Jan 2022, a policy and caveat were sorted, and schools were notified, here is the policy that goes with that notification.

We understand that now that things have been cancelled post our decision-making process you are wanting us to review this policy again.

Unfortunately, we have decided to not add to more confusion and we will be staying with this policy and caveat for 2022, and 2023.

2 Feb 2022 - seeding policy here http://www.volleysouth.org.nz/asset/downloadasset?id=e9fa5ed2-cb97-4e98-9414-e81415bd3580

Referee Development Framework underway for Volleyball New Zealand.

Following on from the successful launch of a coaching framework, Volleyball New Zealand is moving to work on a Referee framework.

“Officiating in volleyball is a critical component of the game”, says VNZ Chief Executive, Toni-Maree Carnie. “Everyone needs to do it, particularly at secondary school levels. So the more capable and skilled our referees are, the better the experience for everyone”.

Fabi Phaneuf, currently based in Brazil and a former American scholarship athlete is leading the project and drawing on New Zealand and international best practices to develop a framework suitable for all levels.

Volleyball NZ is launching a working group of people interested in referee development and in contributing to the development of the framework.

If you are interested in being a part of this group or have ideas for referee development, get in touch with Fabi at fabi@volleyballnz.org.nz

Children and youth and vaccination requirements

Kia ora,

VNZ- We have had a few queries regarding the changes to rules this morning regarding children and youth and vaccination requirements.

Please see the below information VNZ General Manger Steven Upfold has pulled together for you. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact Steven and he is happy to talk through with you.

Kia ora koutou,

We are aware the of this morning’s update from the Covid-19 Response and Education Minister Chris Hipkins regarding participation in school sport for unvaccinated students.

News article from the update: https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/127886379/covid19-unvaccinated-children-can-take-part-in-sport-and-schoolbased-activities-under-phase-3

As a reminder, Volleyball NZ’s position regarding participation in sport has not changed for our events since the initial distribution of our VNZ Guidelines for events under the Covid-19 Protection Framework in late 2021. The guidelines and associated resources can be found here: https://www.volleyballnz.org.nz/covid-19-update

Use and confirmation of My Vaccine Pass for participants is a requirement of the venues which would host our events.

The decision was made on Wednesday to cancel the 2022 NZ Secondary Schools Volleyball Championships. Further details regarding this can be found here: https://www.volleyballnz.org.nz/news/nz-secondary-schools/nzss-championships-cancelled

If anyone has any questions regarding this, or needs further guidance, please feel free to get in touch to discuss further.

Nga mihi nui,

Steven Upfold
