School Volleyball Information:

The School Volleyball League is a school-based League for students from years 5 - 13. This League is the largest with around 55 teams playing at ILT Stadium Southland every Wednesday during Terms 1, 3 & 4. We have multiple grades on offer to suit all our players. We pride ourselves in knowing we have a safe and happy environment where our players, coaches, managers, referees, volunteers, staff, whanau and friends feel welcome.

We offer double games each fortnight for schools outside the Invercargill area to help lessen travel time and cost. If you wish to take us up on this offer, please contact us via email at info@volleysouth.org.nz. Please refer to our school's handbook for in-depth information.

We sincerely appreciate your cooperation in maintaining the integrity and quality of our competition. Let’s work together to ensure a fantastic season!

The school champs draw will be live on Friday 21 Feb 2025.

We are excited to announce that the season draw is now live!

Quarter-finals will commence 19th March, with the crossover, semi-finals, and finals scheduled for April 2nd and 9th. Some travel teams will play a full round-robin in their first week, so we kindly ask that you come prepared.

  • Game Duration: 45 minutes, played as a best-of-three sets format with relaxed social rules.
  • Score Sheets: Basic 3-set score sheets will be used.
  • Uniforms: Teams are not required to have numbered shirts; however, all players must wear the same colour or a school PE top.
  • New System: We are reinstating the microphone system and a universal 40-minute game clock for all matches.

Competitive Teams (Division 1 & Year 9/10 Competitive):

This is the top level of volleyball in our school competition, and many teams are preparing for tournaments.

  • Game Format:
    • Year 9/10 Competitive: Best-of-three sets or 60 minutes.
    • Division 1: Best-of-five sets or 80 minutes – please aim to complete your net time on a spare court prior to your scheduled start time.
  • Official FIVB Competitive Score Sheets: Must be used.
  • Scoring Reminder: Many score sheets were not completed correctly last night. Please watch the video guide, and we are happy to provide training for your students if needed:

Competitive Teams (Division 1 & Year 9/10 Competitive) Court & Supervision Rules:

  • Kindly adhere to tournament protocols for Division 1 and Year 9/10 Competitive games.
  • We observed that some Division 1 benches and court-side areas did not follow protocols. Bench players are permitted to sit at the bench only.
  • In competitive volleyball, only one coach may stand during the match.
  • Duty adults must remain at the score bench to supervise the game. We kindly ask that all adults stay at the scoring desk and avoid conversations far from it.

We’re well into the season, and it’s fantastic to see how smoothly everything is running. A huge thank you to all teams, coaches, referees, and volunteers for your ongoing support in making this season a success!
