Volley South Club and Regional Association – 2025 Club Nationals Update

Volley South is currently the only club affiliated with Volleyball New Zealand (VNZ) in the Queenstown and Southland regions that can potentially participate in the Southern Zone competition and enter Division 1 and 2.

Based on our current national rankings, our intent is to enter Division 3. The Tavalu family men’s team, having won the last five tournaments in our region, is likely to take our top Division 3 spot and compete as "Volley South Tavalu."

The remaining teams will aim for Division 3 and 4 spots, depending on the number of national entries and final decisions. We have also approached SKCY and the Filipino community to gauge interest in entering teams in these divisions.

Expressions of interest

We intend to open expressions of interest to all youth and adult players in our region. This will allow everyone to trial and potentially join the squads.

We aim to take up to three men’s teams and one to two women’s teams, but this will depend on player availability and final selections.


Representative Programme Development – Intent and Expressions of Interest

Volley South aims to continue building its representative programme. All representative players will be initially named in the squads but can opt out by 18 May before announcements.

Training Schedule (June–September 2025) – Proposed

Venue: ILT Stadium Southland

  • June (Proposed):

    • Sundays: 8, 15, 22, 29 | 1:00 – 4:00 PM

    • Wednesdays: 11, 18, 25 | 6:00 – 8:00 PM

  • July – August:

    • Sundays & Wednesdays (To Be Confirmed)

  • September (Proposed):

    • Sundays: 14, 28 | 1:00 – 4:00 PM

Club Nationals Deposit & Costs – Tentative Information

  • Flights (as of 12 May 2025): Estimated at $250 return from Queenstown to Auckland.

  • Entry Fee: $100 per player, payable to VNZ through Volley South.

  • VNZ Membership: If you participated in IPC, you may not need to pay again unless the membership year changes.

Accommodation: Staying with family or friends is an option. Alternatively, if staying with team managers, accommodation and meal costs will be discussed individually.

Fundraising and Support – Expression of Interest

We will be doing massive club fundraisers for all players and payment plans if required. All players will buy their own flights once named in the teams.
