Congratulations to all athletes selected for the 2026 Volley South Representative Squads.

Your commitment, skill, and hard work have earned you this opportunity, and we are excited to begin the season together.

A number of athletes expressed interest but did not complete registration or did not attend the scheduled trials.A final opportunity to trial will be available at the training camp, but ONLY for those who complete the registration form:

πŸ“… MANDATORY TRAINING & TESTING WEEKEND

Saturday 28 February & Sunday 1 March 2026

Locations

  • Otepuni Community Hub – Beach Courts, 40 Forth Street, Invercargill

  • Indoor venue (TBC)

Indicative Cost

$60 per athlete(Covers food and venue hire. Final details will be confirmed.)

Purpose of the Weekend

Coaches and managers will assess:

  • Fitness levels

  • Technical skill levels (beach + indoor)

  • Team systems, structure, and cohesion

  • Behaviour and standards on and off the court

  • Commitment to the full 2026 programme

Final team selections will be released Monday 2 March.


TRAINING COMMITMENT (MARCH–JUNE)

Selected athletes will train twice weekly in Invercargill and Queenstown:

  • Tuesday trainings

  • Sunday trainings

Volley South is currently negotiating with schools to secure free or reduced court hire.We will confirm once final arrangements are completed.


FIRST REPRESENTATIVE TOURNAMENT

Lower South Island Tournament – Dunedin

This event will be the first competitive hit-out as teams.

Travel Arrangements

Queenstown-based athletes:

  • Travel logistics will be confirmed with families individually.

Invercargill-based athletes:

  • Travel together with staff on the bus

  • Early departure for a 9:30am first match

  • Expect 2–3 matches (including possible 5-set matches)

  • Teams will also have duties assigned

  • Return travel on the same day

Cost: Bus fare + packed lunch (entry fee is free). Final price will be shared once the bus quote is received.


WARM-UP TOURNAMENTS

Two warm-up tournaments will be included before IPC.

Dates, locations, and costs will be announced shortly.

To minimise costs:

  • Billeting will be used where available

  • Day trips considered for closer locations

  • If parents prefer a coach to stay in paid accommodation, this cost is covered by the athletes involved


IPC – KING’S BIRTHDAY WEEKEND, WELLINGTON

IPC is the pinnacle representative event for the season.

All players and staff must:

  • Travel together

  • Stay together

  • Participate fully in all team activities

There is no opt-out for transport or accommodation.

IPC Costs – 2025 Context

β€œIn 2025, IPC costs were around $1,400 per player. Thanks to grants, athletes were only invoiced for half of this amount. A fundraiser then reduced the remaining balance to zero for all athletes who participated.”

For 2026, we aim to repeat this model through:

  • Payment plans can start ASAP, if not selected can be refunded

  • Grants

  • Group fundraising

  • Individual athlete fundraising

Full financial expectations will be released before the training camp.
