VOLLEY SOUTH – REGIONAL SENIOR SCHOOL SEEDING EVENT

Sunday 15 February

Event Purpose

This seeding event determines Mainlands and Nationals seedings for both girls’ and boys’ teams.

This is not a tournament and does not include playoffs. All teams play scheduled seeding matches only.


Event Details

  • Doors open: 7:30am

  • First games: 8:00am

  • Finish: All teams must be out and cleaned by 5:00pm


Event Officials

Courts

  • Girls games: Court 8 & Court 4

  • Boys games: Court 10

Teams may only warm up on their allocated playing court.

➡️ Courts are closed to the public. No unauthorised access is permitted, to avoid balls entering live games.


Participating Teams

Girls

  • Wakatipu A

  • Wakatipu B

  • James Hargest A

  • Central Southland A

  • Central Southland B

Each girls team plays four matches and has one duty round.

Boys

  • Wakatipu Boys

  • Central Southland College Boys

Boys teams play two matches total:

  • One warm-up game

  • One seeding game


Match Format (All Teams)

  • Best of five sets

  • First team to three sets wins

  • Match ends immediately once three sets are won

  • No extra sets

  • Matches are not time-controlled

  • If a match runs past the scheduled time slot, play continues until finished


Scoring & Officiating

Girls

  • Full scoresheet scoring is used for all matches.

Boys

Two matches only:

  • Warm-up game

    • Does not count for seeding

    • Coaches may use this as they wish

    • Must finish within 75 minutes

  • Seeding game

    • This is the match that counts

    • Simple scoresheet scoring

Officiating:

  • Warm-up game: Coaches officiate

  • Seeding game: Volley South staff officiate


Breaks – NO GAMES SCHEDULED

(To ensure balance, welfare, and fairness across teams)

  • 11:00 – 11:30am

  • 2:30 – 3:00pm


Refereeing & Duty – Girls

  • Each girls team has one duty round

  • The duty team referees both girls courts during their duty round

Minimum officials per court

  • 1st referee

  • 2nd referee

  • 1 official scorer

  • 1 line judge (opposite the 2nd referee)


Development Focus

It is the strong preference of the organiser that students perform:

  • 1st referee

  • 2nd referee

  • Official scoresheet scoring

This is to provide valuable experience ahead of Mainlands and Volleyball New Zealand Nationals.


Behaviour Expectations

  • Coaches must not address referees, scorers, or duty teams directly

  • All communication must be via the team captain only

  • Respectful behaviour is expected at all times

  • Breaches may result in sanctions


Equipment & Requirements

  • Schools must bring a minimum of two (2) whistles per team

  • Schools must bring their own practice balls

  • No whistles or practice balls are supplied

  • Rotation slips, match balls, and flags are provided


Entry Fees

  • Girls: Full entry fee (4 matches)

  • Boys: 75% entry fee (Two matches only and additional staff required for duty)


Protests

A Protest Committee will operate on the day:

  • Donna Milne (remote)

  • Keila Patino

  • Jo Levia

Protest conditions:

  • Must be lodged at the time of the incident

  • $50 cash fee required

  • The game stops immediately until the protest is reviewed

  • No post-match protests will be considered

  • The committee’s decision is final
